- Mads Andersen took over management of Krogeg?rd in 1829 from his father, who died two years later. Mads Andersen died at 47 years old in 1838, his widow Kirstine Svendsdatter was granted permission to stay at Krogeg?rd (Bl. ?. H. Skiftep. 1835-45 Fol. 119-2); the value of the estate was estimated at 4,000 Rigsdaler. All three children were under age, therefore the widows brother, S?ren Low from Melstedg?rd, came to live at the farm.
Kirstine Svendsdatter lost her husband of 16 years when she was 40 years old. As she refused to re-marry, her unmarried brother S?ren Low came to help her farm Krogeg?rd and raise her three young children. She died of breast cancer at the age of 57. She is the last of my direct ancestors to own Krogeg?rd, although it would stay in the family ownership for several more generations.

Vilhelm Svendsen in "?sterlarsker Sl?gter" provides us with the following information about, and written by her brother S?ren Low. He was one of the few writers in our family-clan. Unfortunately, nearly all of his writings seem to have been lost. He was the manager of Krogeg?rd for some years after the death of his brother-in-law Mads Andersen, working to help his sister Kirstine Svendsdatter. On this period in his life S?ren wrote the following observations:
For the longest time it has been my intention to let those of my family and friends who might be interested, know how much happiness and contentment I derived from the years spent on that first selfowner-farm, Krogeg?rd; but on account of my farm-chores I did not seem to find time to put pen to paper until today. When suddenly the recollection of my experiences there flooded my mind and urged me to leave my chores in order to write down this epistle, which also serves to preserve the happenings in my own memory.
In the year of 1838 on December 5th it pleased our almighty, loving God by death to release my dearly-beloved brother-in-law from the heavy cloak of earthly dust. Only a short span of time was allotted this brave man, the loss of whom is felt deeply by his sorrowing family, but also by the countless poor and needy people who could always count on his help.
But we must not despair about the decisions from God in Heaven - everything he sends us to bear will turn out to be a true blessing. My dear sister Kirstine Svendsdatter, married to the deceased, became so saddened by this unexpected loss, which every compassionate person would understand, that she decided never to re-marry.
Because of the unexpected death of my brother-in-law I left my beloved family-farm, the second selfowner-farm in this county, at the request of my sister; moving into the house belonging to her and my deceased brother-in-law. Where I, as earlier mentioned, spent some of the happiest years of my life. This change of abode was made so I would be able to better console the sorrowing family, which I could do much better than a stranger. Much of my time was devoted to securing a good future for my nieces and nephews. With glory to God, I can now confess that the hope I nurtured about their success in life did not wither and die; because the seeds sown by me bore fruits far beyond my imagining.
During the first two years living with the family, my tender heart often ached seeing the myriads of bitter tears flowing from their eyes. During these moments of sorrow I tried to make my dear relatives aware that mortals like us ought not to doubt the wise guidance of our Creator, who always looks out for our timely, as well as our eternal, well-being. However, this well-intentioned consolation could not always stop their tears and lament; thus I lived those two years trying to ease the sorrow of this dear family, that forever had lost the tender care of their father to the cold grave. Slowly though, time seemed to heal the deep wounds inflicted by the cruel reaper unto the hearts of my dear relatives. God, who decides the fate of very human-being, sent a healing balsam to speed up their recovery of joy in living together -- with hopeful hearts for the future.
Therefore, I continued to live with my dear family for some time, truly the happiest time of my life. Often I look back with tears of joy upon those days, when I -- and I believe rather successfully -- strived to do the task of my deceased brother-in-law. I wished deeply to stay with that dear family, but circumstances, which I will not mention here, forced me to go elsewhere: back to my place of work among my dear siblings, where I am still happily toiling.
